Choosing A Digital Picture Frame - 5 Things To Consider
January 12th, 2009 by admin
The price of digital photo frames reduced dramatically in the second half of 2008 making them much more affordable and, for many, the Christmas gift of choice. If you’re thinking of buying one, whether for yourself or as a gift, here are 5 areas you will want to consider:
What Size is The Display? 7″ is the most popular size currently. It’s a good balance between functionality and cost, but 10″ screens are also very easy to find at reasonable prices. Be sure to check that the image quality is acceptable on larger frames - bigger may not actually be better.
What is The Resolution? A resolution of 480×234 pixels for a 7″ frame will not produce a good quality image. If you’re not sure what resolution is good for you then try to view the frame before you buy.
Can You Customise The Style of The Frame? If you like black, chrome or clear plastic you’ll probably be okay - but some frames come with detachable borders which can be used to customise the look of the frame to suit your decor.
Does Your Frame Come With Memory Built In? Most frames require you to leave a memory card (typically an SD card as used on many digital cameras) or a USB stick plugged in. However, frames with their own built in memory are becoming more and more common.
What Other Functions Does Your Desired Frame Have/Need? Most frames let you set up a slideshow but some will let you add background music in the form of an MP3 file. Others allow you to transmit your snapshots by wireless, or even send them by e-mail and many come with remote controls. These may not be of interest to you but it’s certainly worth thinking about.
These are just a few of the aspects to consider when reviewing digital picture frames - but they probably represent the most important considerations for the majority of prospective customers.
