The Importance Of Body Language
March 30th, 2009 by admin
Behavioral research shows that the effectiveness of your communications efforts are influenced by the following things: Body language (about 60%), bodily gestures (about 30%), and factual items (about 10%). As “Hitch” sez: “90% of what you’re sayin’ aint coming’ out of your mouth.” When we look across the broad range of non-verbal communications given out by others, patterns do emerge in different ways. Here is sampling of some of these non-verbal signals: Closing: Defending, such as in crossing arms or legs. Opening: Offering access by uncrossing limbs, or relaxing. Expanding: Growing larger by taking up more space, as in puffing out chest. Moving forward: Seeking out, or attacking. Crossing Limbs: Defending, retreating. Angling our body away: Refusing, denying. Primping/grooming: Flirting. The importance of body language cannot be including non-verbal cues cannot be overestimated, and just happen to be the most reliable of all nonverbal signals of deception. Understanding body language better can help you tell if someone is lying to you.
