Ideas For Home Food Storage
August 28th, 2009 by admin
With so much speculation of world droughts and food shortages, it is not surprising there is much online discussion about stocking up on essential foods. That’s all very well, but where do you put it all?
In practical terms, home food storage in any bulk is something of a problem. The fact of it is that most of us do not have a great deal of space in the home, and perishable food has to be kept fresh and in hygienic conditions.
Emergency storage rations are best confined to dry goods and cans. Having freezers full of frozen foods is no good in a power failure. As a staple, potatoes and carrots stored in sharp sand should last, and have plenty of rice in stock.
