Insulin Pumps vs. Lantis

November 23rd, 2009 by admin

Lantis has been called the poor man’s insulin pump, because it lasts for a steady 24 hours in your system, and you can dial it in so that it works just like an insulin pump in the way it can keep your fasting blood sugars steady, just like using Insulin Pumps that are set with a basil rate of insulin. Insulin pumps drip insulin into the body, just like a pancreas does, keeping your blood sugars steady. The difference between Lantis and a pump is that a pump costs $5k and uses Humalog, which costs $100 per bottle. Since Lantis is a $100 per bottle too, there really isn’t any reason to add a pump, unless you want to, or are afraid to stick yourself with a needle 5-6 times a day.
