Medicare Helps Pay for Stair Lift for Stroke Victim

After my husband suffered a stroke, we had to make changes to our home to accommodate his physical limitations. He was no longer able to climb stairs. This was a big concern considering our only bathroom is located on the second floor of the house. He would not consent to the indignity of using a potty chair, so I had to find a way for him to have access to the bathroom. His physical therapist suggested a stair lift to transport him up and down the stairs, but we found them to be quite expensive. I wondered does medicare cover stair lifts, so we inquired about getting some assistance with the cost. Fortunately for us, Medicare would cover the majority of the expense of buying and installing a stair lift. I was able to have all the renovations made before my husband was released from the hospital.
